Shantou Village set for second Kerry National bid

Next week shantou Village is set for Another tilt at the Guinness Kerry National at Listowel.

The cost of neil Mulholland has eight career victories to his credit – including wins over fences and obstacles at Cheltenham.
The nine-year-old was defeated five and a half lengths in last season’s Kerry National into fifth place behind the Noel Meade-trained Snow Falcon and his trainer has been eyeing a duplicate bidding for some time.
Mulholland said:»He did a great bit of effort this morning and we are pleased him, or so the plan is to carry him back to Listowel.
«He was just beaten just more than five lengths in the race last year when the ground was pretty soft. Hopefully we’ll get better floor this season as that will suit him nicely.»
Shantou Village hasn’t yet been viewed in competitive action since being hauled up at the Ultima Handicap Chase however Mulholland is convinced the lack of a run will not be an issue.
«He’d been running during the summer last year, but he won his first bumper first time out and his rookie hurdle out time and we just said we would take him new this season and see how we put on,» the Somerset handler added.
«He has a wonderful racing weight (9st 13lb) at the moment and we’re excited about having a go»
Shantou Village is one of three contenders for the feature event of their Harvest Festival and last year Dell’ Arca – coached by David Pipe – and also the Monbeg River of Martin Todhunter.
This race’s last British-trained winner has been the Macs Supreme at 2000 of Ferdy Murphy.
The weights are led by Enda Bolger’s Ballyoisin, who produced an impressive return in August from an absence at Killarney. Bolger is responsible for its favourite Movewiththetimes.
While Gordon Elliott group Involves Ravenhill, Barra, Three Musketeers along with A Toi Phil willie Mullins has five entries in Pravalaguna, Some Neck, Yorkhill, Minella Beau and Ask Susan.
Other contenders include Joseph O’Brien’s All The Answers and Eric McNamara’s trio of Inner Transfer, Black Scorpion and Gwencily Berbas.
