Serena Williams has the time»working for her» in pursuit of an elusive 24th Grand Slam singles title, says her long-time coach Patrick Mouratoglou.
The former world No 1, who will turn 38 later this month, suffered her fourth defeat in a major final in the US Open because her wait to match the all-time drag of Australian Margaret Court was prolonged.
Williams will now have to wait in January for her next shot history – until the Open – the scene of her last Grand Slam title in 2017.
After her defeat to Canadian teenager Bianca Andreescu in Flushing Meadows, the world resisted anxieties on her ability to overcome one obstacle in her profession: reevaluate the tally of Court and then to coincide.
Mouratoglou, who has coached Williams since beginning their partnership from June 2012 to 10 Grand Slam titles, insists the American is becoming more formidable.
«I think time is working for me personally,» Mouratoglou told Sky Sports’ Mathieu Wood in a private interview in the Mouratoglou Academy.
«I believe she was better at the US Open than she ever was at Wimbledon and Wimbledon greater than Roland Garros.
«She is getting back in shape and the longer in shape she are the more dangerous she will soon probably be. I believe she has begun to play really good tennis.»
Williams has not won a pair in every one of the four Grand Slam finals she’s reached since the return from the birth of her first child in September 2017.
She lost to Angelique Kerber in the Wimbledon showpiece calendar year, before then teenager Andreescu and being beaten by Naomi Osaka at New York although this year she’s dropped on exactly the phases against Simona Halep.
Mouratoglou admits Williams, who won a Grand Slam has to resolve the formula to fortify her legacy.
«She’s to win that last match in the championship that’s always really tough,» he explained.
«It is one game for background and the pressure is quite high. I could figure she is playing one match for history although I am not in her mind.
«This is the maximum pressure anyone may have in life and on the opposite side of this courtroom she plays with women who have zero strain as it’s their very first closing.
«They will play many [Grand Slams]they are young, they are excited, enthused so that they play without stress and that makes a huge difference. However, at some point she will figure out how to deal with this»
Patrick Mouratoglou was talking at the launch of Asics being appointed apparel partner and footwear of their Mouratoglou Academy to Sky Sports.
