POST-UFC FIGHT NIGHT 109: ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was in Stockholm, Sweden for the fifth time in promotional background Sunday (May 28, 2017) with UFC Fight Night 109: Gustafsson vs. Teixeira. It was a solid night of battles which watched half of 12 bouts finish by finish, and with all the scraps today in our rear view, let us look at that of the day’s competitions we may no longer see in activity within the Octagon…
ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK
Alex Nicholson
Nicholson dropped via TKO and took on Jack Hermansson. He is currently on 1-3 in the UFC and a deficit within the Octagon. Following the loss to Hermansson, I think there is a fantastic opportunity that Nicholson will be receiving his walking papers out of the promotion. Along with his latest skid, he is also known to produce headlines for reasons that were negative, and that I feel the UFC will be pleased cutting ties with him. I see him getting released, and I really don’t find him working his way back into the huge display, despite being only 27 years of age.
Chris Camozzi
Camozzi came up short in a unanimous-decision loss to Trevor Smith and is now riding a three-fight losing streak in what is his third stint with the UFC. He was discharged after four successive losses last time and has dropped only three consecutive this time, but I think that it’s more than likely he will be getting a pink slip from the advertising. I would like to see him get a fourth shot for another time, but I’ve got my doubts about it. Should he get released, I believe this time he will head to Bellator instead of the regional circuit in Colorado in hopes of working his way to a fourth UFC stint.
Nico Musoke
Musoke returned to shoot on Bojan Velickovic in front of his home crowd in Sweden. He was up on the judges’ scorecards en route to some conclusion victory with half a minute left in the competition. That is when he had been captured with a test right hook which staggered him, placing him on ice skates and allowing Velickovic to complete him. The loss makes it two for the Swede, and he’s currently 1-3 in his last four. I think that it is 60/40 that he will be getting released from the UFC. I lean towards them giving him a third chance since he just returned from an extended layoff, was winning the fight until getting caught and the promotion would use him European cards.
